memo to 0.0.0.0: universal colonization
wiz@thoughtrights.com, Sept 2000

[ Okay, so I had a fever and was in front of a computer. My bad. Here's what came out. Can you tell I'm a Unitarian Universalist who slid into some strange mix of space invaders and God? ]

Life's core concept is expansion and evolution therein. Taken on a galactic scale each blossoming civilization can be thought of as one point of life, striving to live as any lifeform does. Weak ones die, strong ones breed. Civilizations grow.

We are the dominant civilization in the galaxy. We have to be. We are in a constant state of expansion, but have forgotten our beginings. We are colonists in this system. We will visit other systems, some which our ancestors visited and colonized, and some they didn't get to yet. On the ones that have been colonized, we'll find strange civilizations in various stages unlike but vaguely similar to our own. On the ones we have yet to colonize, we will be pushing the envelope of "human" expansion of the galaxy. We will seed other civilizations which may one day forget they are colonies.

..or..

We are a fragile experiment of a broader intelligence. Perhaps this is God, perhaps it is life played out on a galactic scale. Perhaps it is simply a sheltered environment for our society to develop.
